Nicholas Pooran crowned Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer
Nicholas Pooran has been named Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer in the World for 2024, earning the honor in the prestigious Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack 2025 edition after a historic year across leagues worldwide.
The dynamic West Indies batter starred for the national team, Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, and multiple T20 franchises globally, putting together a remarkable 2024 season.
Record-breaking numbers in T20 cricket
Pooran amassed 2,331 runs in 76 T20 matches in 2024, averaging 40.89 with a sensational strike rate of 157.39. He smashed one century and 15 fifties during the calendar year.
In the process, Pooran broke the record for the most T20 runs in a single calendar year, surpassing Mohammad Rizwan’s 2,036 runs in 2021.
Pooran also shattered six-hitting records
Earlier in 2024, Pooran set another benchmark by hitting the most sixes in a calendar year in T20 cricket. He blasted 170 sixes in just 74 innings, overtaking the previous record held by Chris Gayle (135 sixes in 2015).
Continued dominance in IPL 2025
Pooran’s explosive form has continued in the IPL 2025 season. Playing for Lucknow Super Giants, he has scored 377 runs in nine matches at an astounding strike rate of 204.89 and an average of 47.12, including four fifties.
As of now, Pooran ranks third in the IPL Orange Cap standings, just 40 runs behind the leader, Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans.
