The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly denied reports suggesting that Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is stepping down from his role after being appointed as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Speculation regarding Naqvi’s resignation began circulating across sports media and social platforms over the weekend, with some reports claiming that his increased responsibilities as ACC President might force him to step down from his position at the PCB.
However, in a statement issued on Monday as reported by Samaa, PCB officials categorically rejected these rumors, describing them as “baseless.” A senior PCB official emphasized that Naqvi remains fully committed to his duties as Chairman.
“There is no truth to the reports about Mr. Naqvi’s resignation,” the official stated. “He continues to perform his duties as PCB Chairman and remains fully committed to the development of Pakistan cricket.”
Naqvi, who also serves as the Federal Minister for Interior, was elected unopposed as the ACC President in early April, making history as the first Pakistani to hold the position since 2008. His appointment was hailed as a significant milestone for Pakistan’s influence in regional cricket governance.
In response to concerns about Naqvi managing both roles, the PCB official explained that holding dual responsibilities in the PCB and ACC was not unprecedented and could be effectively managed with proper time allocation.
“It is an honour for Pakistan that our representative is leading the ACC. Mr. Naqvi has no intention of stepping down from the PCB at this stage,” the official added.
The PCB’s swift denial comes amid speculation that Naqvi’s new leadership role at the ACC would force him to scale back his involvement in domestic cricket matters. However, according to PCB officials, Naqvi’s continued engagement with both the PCB and the ACC is well within the scope of his capabilities, and he remains dedicated to advancing Pakistan cricket on both fronts.
