The New Zealand national cricket team, known as the Black Caps, made their Test debut in 1930 against England in Christchurch, becoming the fifth nation to play Test cricket. After waiting 26 years for their first Test win against the West Indies in 1956, they also played their first ODI in 1972–73 against Pakistan. New Zealand are the inaugural World Test Championship champions (2021) and have won the ICC Champions Trophy (2000). They have reached the Cricket World Cup final twice and the T20 World Cup final once.

The BLACKCAPS are celebrating an incredible moment in Test cricket history after becoming the first team EVER to win a three-match Test series 3-0 in India!

After impressive victories in the first two Tests in Bangalore and Pune last month – achieving an historic Series win with a match to spare, the BLACKCAPS carried on to a thrilling, 25-run win in the third and final Test at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

It was another solid team effort, contributions across the board, headlined by Mumbai-born, New Zealand-raised left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel who claimed two more Test bags for match figures of 11/160.

THIRD TEST SCORECARD

Patel’s name was already etched onto the famous ground’s honours board after having become just the third player in cricket history to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings – that was the last time the BLACKCAPS played a Test here.

But that tour did not produce the results the team wanted, despite Patel’s incredible 14 wickets for the match.

This time, the Player of the Match fittingly took the winning wicket to complete a famous victory, with a couple of days to spare.

Batter Will Young was named Player of the Series and Tom Latham was off the mark with his first Series win as the new full-time BLACKCAPS Test skipper.

It’s been a Series that will be talked about for decades to come, but the focus quickly shifts now to the upcoming T20I and ODI tour of Sri Lanka (starting 9 November in Dambulla).

Test cricket will soon be back with England coming to New Zealand for the Tegel three-match Series later this month – a crucial series, now, for ICC World Test Championship Final qualification.

The BLACKCAPS have kept their hopes alive through the outstanding results in India.
