Pakistan batter Haider Ali has been provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after his arrest in the United Kingdom over rape allegations. The 24-year-old, currently under investigation by Greater Manchester Police (GMP), was part of the Pakistan Shaheens squad on their recent tour of England.
Police confirm arrest and bail
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a complaint was filed earlier this month, alleging an incident during the Shaheens’ tour.
“A report of a rape was made to police on Monday, 4 August 2025. It’s alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, at a premises in Manchester. We have arrested a 24-year-old man. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries,” GMP said in a statement.
In line with standard UK legal procedures, police have not named the individual at this stage of the investigation. The Shaheens’ tour began on July 22 and concluded in early August, with Haider Ali featuring in both red-ball and white-ball matches.
PCB confirms provisional suspension
In a formal statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board acknowledged the ongoing investigation and announced immediate disciplinary action.
“The PCB has been made aware of a criminal investigation currently being conducted by the Greater Manchester Police involving cricketer Haider Ali,” the board stated.
“The investigation pertains to an incident that reportedly occurred during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England. The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course. Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Once the legal proceedings are concluded and all facts have been duly established, the PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct, if necessary.”
The board also confirmed that Haider is receiving legal assistance “to protect his rights throughout this process.”
Haider Ali’s international career
Haider Ali made his Pakistan debut in 2020 and has played two ODIs and 35 T20 internationals. Known for his aggressive batting style, he was one of the most experienced members of the Pakistan Shaheens, a second-tier national side aimed at developing emerging and fringe international players.
The PCB has stated it will await the completion of the legal process before making any further decisions about his future in cricket.
