Pakistan and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have agreed in principle to support the continued development of cricket in Iran, with plans to collaborate on a range of initiatives designed to strengthen the game’s foundations across the country.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and ACC President Mohsin Naqvi and Iran Cricket Association President Hussein Mokhtari, where both sides discussed opportunities to expand cricketing cooperation and deepen sporting ties between the neighbouring nations.

Focus on long-term cricket development
The proposed partnership centres on providing practical assistance across several areas of the sport, with Pakistan and the ACC expected to contribute technical expertise, coaching programmes, umpire education and broader player development initiatives.
The discussions also explored ways to build capacity within Iran’s cricket ecosystem by enhancing coaching standards, developing match officials and creating stronger pathways for player development.
The collaboration is intended to support the long-term growth of cricket in Iran by helping strengthen the structures required to develop the game at multiple levels.
Regional cooperation at the forefront
The initiative also reflects broader efforts to encourage cricket’s expansion across emerging markets in Asia through greater collaboration between established and developing cricket nations.
By combining the PCB’s experience with the ACC’s regional development role, the two organisations aim to assist Iran in building a stronger cricketing framework while creating further opportunities for knowledge sharing and future cooperation.
The next steps in the partnership are expected to be finalised following the agreement in principle reached during the meeting, with both sides looking to advance cricket development initiatives through continued collaboration.
