Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was notably absent from the initial ICC meetings following the conclusion of the Champions Trophy planning phase, raising questions about Pakistan’s top-level engagement in key international cricket discussions.
An official from the PCB clarified the reason behind Naqvi’s absence, stating, “Mohsin Naqvi couldn’t go because of work at home and Sumair Ahmed the board’s CEO attended the ICC meetings.” With pressing domestic responsibilities, Naqvi opted out of the ICC engagements, delegating representation duties to CEO Sumair Ahmed.
The ICC meetings, held shortly after the Champions Trophy discussions, are typically considered vital for shaping international cricket’s calendar and governance. Naqvi’s decision to skip them comes at a time when Pakistan is under the spotlight, both as a major host for the upcoming Champions Trophy and as a voice in global cricket diplomacy.
Despite the chairman’s absence, the PCB’s active participation through CEO Sumair Ahmed ensured that Pakistan’s interests were still represented during the sessions.
