The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is actively working to reschedule a three-match home ODI series against Australia in March 2026, aiming to prevent a direct conflict with the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is expected to be held in the same window.
Australia is slated for a dual-leg tour of Pakistan early next year — beginning with three T20 Internationals from January 30 to February 5 as part of their preparation for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, followed by the ODI series scheduled from March 13 to 19. However, the overlap with the PSL has forced the PCB to consider changes.
“The PCB was in talks with Cricket Australia (CA) to reschedule the ODI series,” a source confirmed according to PTI, as pressure mounts to realign the calendar.
PSL 2026 to be pushed again
The PSL, Pakistan’s flagship T20 competition, has seen repeated scheduling upheavals due to international commitments. In 2025, the tournament was played between March and May, a shift from its traditional February slot.
The source said the PCB wants to reschedule the ODIs because it is most likely to organise the PSL between March and May next year.
Earlier this year, the PCB had to delay the PSL to April-May to accommodate the ICC Champions Trophy, which was hosted in Pakistan for the first time in nearly three decades. That rescheduling also led to a rare PSL window that clashed with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Adding complexity to the 2026 edition, the PSL is set to expand with two new teams, further raising the stakes for optimal scheduling and avoiding clashes with international cricket.
T20Is remain on track before 2026 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka
The three-match T20I series between Pakistan and Australia — scheduled for January 30, February 2, and February 5 — is expected to go ahead as planned. This window serves as a crucial warm-up opportunity for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup, which kicks off on February 7, 2026, and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
As part of the proposed original schedule, the T20Is were scheduled right before the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026… however, that may clash with the PSL, and hence, the two boards are in discussions to find a middle ground.
With the International Cricket Council (ICC) having now announced the official World Cup schedule, both boards are expected to move forward with greater clarity, paving the way for a final decision on the rescheduling of the ODI leg.
