Global sports brands increasingly see India not just as a consumer market, but as a sporting growth engine.

Powerade, The Coca-Cola Company’s global sports hydration brand, has officially entered the Indian market through a partnership with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, positioning itself as the tournament’s Official Sports Drink, according to a report by SportsMint Media.

The move anchors the brand’s India launch to one of cricket’s most commercially powerful properties, with matches staged across India and Sri Lanka and delivering significant broadcast reach, digital engagement and on-ground visibility.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 becomes launchpad for India entry

Rather than opting for a gradual rollout, Powerade has aligned its debut with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, using the scale and youth appeal of the T20 format to establish immediate credibility in a cricket-dominated landscape.

The launch was marked by a high-impact on-ground integration during India’s Super 8 fixture in Ahmedabad on February 22, 2026, where the brand created prominent match-day visibility to announce its arrival.

Powerade’s entry reflects The Coca-Cola Company’s broader strategy of expanding its performance-led beverage portfolio in India, tapping into rising fitness awareness, organised sports participation and the rapid growth of modern trade and e-commerce channels.

Ankita Mahna, Senior Director, Marketing, Hydration, Sports & Tea Category, Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia, said in an official statement: “Sport in India lives in streets, playgrounds, gyms and everyday routines. Powerade’s entry into India is about meeting people in those moments of intense effort, whether they’re training professionally or simply pushing themselves a little further every day. Launching at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup gives us a powerful starting point, but our focus goes beyond the tournament. We’re building Powerade as a long-term sports hydration brand that grows with India’s sporting ambition and its increasingly active lifestyles.”

‘Fuel Your Power™’ campaign drives performance positioning

Central to the India rollout is the ‘Fuel Your Power™’ campaign, conceptualised by Ogilvy India and built around the physical and mental resilience required in high-performance sport.

The campaign features Indian cricketer Shubman Gill and Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, linking cricket and athletics under a unified performance narrative that extends beyond elite competition into everyday training environments.

Sukesh Nayak, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy India, said in an official statement: “For Powerade’s launch in India, we chose to go down the psyche of an everyday athlete. The battle is always between the mind and the body, where the mind wants to go on, but energy levels say, ‘stop’. And how Powerade fuels them in pushing forward. We found the perfect match in Shubman Gill and Neeraj Chopra, who might be international sports icons, but behind the scenes, their workout struggle could be a lot like any of ours. Making Powerade the fuel to everyone’s power.”

The creative approach places hydration at the centre of preparation, training and recovery — areas that increasingly resonate with India’s expanding base of fitness-conscious consumers.

Athlete ambassadors underline cross-sport ambition

For Shubman Gill, the association reinforces the importance of work done away from match-day spotlight.

“A lot of the work around sport happens away from the spotlight, in training and recovery. Staying hydrated is a basic but important part of that, and I am glad to be associated with Powerade as it launches in India,” he said in an official statement.

Neeraj Chopra echoed that sentiment, highlighting preparation as the cornerstone of elite performance. “Preparation is everything in sport, especially on tough training days. It’s great to see Powerade come to India and support athletes across different disciplines,” he said in an official statement.

By pairing cricket and athletics, Powerade is signalling ambitions beyond a single sport, targeting a broader performance and lifestyle positioning in India’s evolving sports ecosystem.

Product rollout and distribution scale

Designed as a sports hydration solution, Powerade contains Vitamin B3 and electrolytes aimed at supporting performance energy for high-intensity training and competitive sport. The drink will be available in two variants — Mountain Blast (Blue) and Fruit Punch (Red) — in a low-calorie formulation aligned with changing consumer preferences.

The brand is set to launch in India from March 2026, priced at INR 20 (approx. US$ 0.22) for a 250 ml pack and INR 50 (approx. US$ .55) for a 500 ml pack.

Backed by The Coca-Cola Company’s established distribution infrastructure, supply chains and retail network in India, Powerade is expected to scale rapidly across metropolitan centres and emerging markets.

India’s sports hydration segment heats up

India’s sports hydration category has expanded steadily, driven by growing participation in organised sport, gym culture and rising awareness around fitness and active lifestyles. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup partnership provides Powerade with immediate brand association in a market where cricket commands unmatched commercial influence.

With the 2026 tournament serving as its launch vehicle, Powerade’s India entry underscores how global consumer brands are increasingly leveraging marquee cricket events to fast-track market penetration, build brand equity and embed themselves within the country’s expanding sports business landscape.
