The Pakistan Super League (PSL) administration is preparing for a key meeting next week to discuss the PSL 12 match schedule, with the upcoming South Asian Games expected to influence fixture planning for the tournament’s 2027 edition.

The meeting is likely to take place on October 21 or 22, according to a report by Geo Super, with player retentions, direct signings and arrangements for the player auction also on the agenda.

The discussions will focus on several operational decisions for the eight-team competition, including how fixtures will be distributed across venues and the arrangements required for player recruitment.

PSL 12 preparations follow major changes to league format

The upcoming discussions come after a significant period of change for the PSL, which expanded to eight franchises for the first time in its 2026 edition.

The 11th season also marked the introduction of the league’s inaugural player auction, replacing the previous draft system and establishing a new approach to player recruitment.

Peshawar Zalmi secured the PSL 11 championship with a five-wicket victory over debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in the final on May 3, ending a nine-year wait for the title.

The final, played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, attracted a record crowd of 32,461 spectators.

South Asian Games to influence PSL 12 fixture planning

A major consideration for the PSL administration will be the South Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Islamabad and Lahore from April 3 to 11.

The regional multi-sport event falls within the PSL 12 tournament window, requiring organisers to account for overlapping sporting commitments when planning fixtures in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Matches could be staged at other venues during the Games, providing an alternative while the regional event takes place.

Player auction and franchise consultations on agenda

The meeting will also address player recruitment arrangements for PSL 12, including retentions, direct signings and preparations for the player auction.

Potential auction dates and venues are expected to form part of the discussions, with the administration seeking input from franchises and other stakeholders before finalising arrangements.

Preliminary preparations have already been completed, although the relevant decisions remain subject to consultation.

PSL 12 tournament window confirmed following Governing Council meeting

The overall tournament window was confirmed earlier this month following consultations with key stakeholders at the PSL Governing Council meeting held in London on September 1, 2026.

Owners and representatives of all eight franchises attended the meeting, which established the competition’s dates ahead of the forthcoming scheduling discussions.

The upcoming meeting is expected to provide further clarity on the detailed fixture list and player auction arrangements as the league continues its preparations for PSL 12.
