Punjab Kings have publicly pushed back against misinformation and online speculation surrounding the franchise and several of its players during IPL 2026, with the team issuing a strongly worded statement on X urging people to avoid spreading unverified claims for attention and engagement. The statement comes at a time when the franchise is facing increasing scrutiny both on and off the field following a difficult run of results and growing discussion across social media platforms.
“Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction,” Punjab Kings posted on X.

The franchise had opened IPL 2026 in dominant form, remaining unbeaten across their first seven matches with six victories and one abandoned fixture. However, four consecutive defeats have since complicated Punjab’s playoff position and intensified attention around the team heading into the final phase of the league stage.
Preity Zinta condemns misinformation around franchise
Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta also addressed the issue on X as discussion around the franchise continued to grow online during the tournament.
“There’s a difference between criticism & calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not & will not be taken lightly.”

Zinta also urged greater responsibility around the circulation of unverified claims involving players, franchises and public figures connected to the league.
“I urge everyone, including verified voices & media professionals, to exercise responsibility before amplifying unverified information. Thank you.”
The statements come amid increasing online discussion involving several Punjab Kings players during recent weeks. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently drew attention after clips circulated on social media appearing to show him using an unidentified device during travel, as previously reported by cricexec. Separate online discussion involving opener Prabhsimran Singh’s fitness and conditioning also added to the wider scrutiny surrounding the franchise.
Punjab Kings remain in playoff contention
Despite their recent dip in form, Punjab Kings remain firmly in contention for an IPL 2026 playoff place. The franchise currently sit fourth on the points table with 13 points and remain in control of their qualification hopes heading into a crucial stretch of fixtures.
Punjab Kings face Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala later today before taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants in their remaining league fixtures. The upcoming run is expected to play a decisive role in determining whether Punjab can recover momentum and secure a playoff place after their recent slide in form.
