Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has heaped praise on Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza for his remarkable display of commitment and performance under pressure in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 final, calling it a defining moment in Lahore Qalandars’ championship win.

Ramiz Raja hails Raza on YouTube

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ramiz recounted the behind-the-scenes drama that made Raza’s performance even more extraordinary. He revealed that the Lahore Qalandars were unsure if their star all-rounder would make it in time for the final, and had to prepare a contingency plan.

“Lahore Qalandars had prepared two squad lists—one with Sikandar Raza and another with Shakib Al Hasan, in case Raza couldn’t make it in time,” Ramiz revealed.

Despite logistical hurdles, Raza landed in Lahore just hours before the toss.

“He landed in Lahore around 6 PM on the day of the final. When he arrived at the ground, he bowled just three or four deliveries in the warm-up and then went straight onto the field,” Ramiz said.

A performance that turned the tide

While the final was a collective effort from the Qalandars squad, it was Raza’s performance that truly stood out, said Ramiz.

“Sikandar Raza played a phenomenal innings in the final. Every player contributed, but he added the winning spark. Perera also played a fantastic knock and played his part in the win,” he remarked.

Ramiz didn’t hold back on his admiration for Raza’s dedication and its impact on the team.

“The way Sikandar showed commitment is truly admirable. He not only managed to reach Pakistan against the odds but also played and led his team to victory,” he said.

A symbol of loyalty and professionalism

For Ramiz, Raza’s story was more than just about cricketing skill—it was about character.

“This is a remarkable example of dedication. It shows Sikandar’s love for the game and the franchise. Lahore Qalandars, in return, take great care of their players, and we have all seen that,” he stated.

PSL expansion on the horizon

Looking ahead, Ramiz expressed optimism about the future of the league, hinting at its expansion for the upcoming season.

“Next season, the league could become even more thrilling as two new teams are expected to join. But we must assess whether we have the talent pool to support this expansion and what strategies will be in place. It promises to be an exciting model,” he said.
