RPSG Ventures Ltd has made a major move into English cricket, acquiring a controlling 70% stake in Manchester Originals for a total consideration of GBP 81.21 million. The deal, completed on July 28, 2025, is being seen as a significant strategic expansion of RPSG’s global sports portfolio.
According to a report by CNBCTV18, the acquisition was executed through RPSG’s wholly owned subsidiary, RPSG Sports Ventures Private Limited (RPSVPL), and the payment will be made over a 24-month period as part of the share purchase agreement signed with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Strengthening cricket investments through The Hundred
Manchester Originals is a franchise representing Lancashire in the ECB’s 100-ball competition, The Hundred. Incorporated in May 2019, the team reported a turnover of GBP 2.04 million for the financial year ending January 2024. This acquisition gives RPSG a foothold in one of English cricket’s most high-profile short-format leagues.
In addition to the agreement with the ECB, RPSVPL also signed supporting documents with Manchester Originals Limited, Lancashire County Cricket Club Limited (LCCC), and other key stakeholders, further formalizing the acquisition structure. Manchester Originals is now officially a subsidiary of RPSVPL and a step-down subsidiary of RPSG Ventures.
Global ambitions and brand expansion
According to the company, the deal will unlock opportunities for international collaborations, enhance talent development, and boost brand visibility in key cricket-playing regions.
The acquisition was completed via a cash transaction involving 70 ordinary shares — representing a 70% ownership in the franchise — solidifying RPSG’s influence in the commercial cricket ecosystem beyond India.
Market response
Shares of RPSG Ventures Ltd closed at ₹953.95 on the BSE on the day of the announcement, marking a decline of ₹42.60 or 4.27%.
