The opening match of Scotland Men’s tour of Canada in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 (CWCL2) was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to an unplayable pitch at King City, Toronto.
Despite sunny weather and a steady breeze throughout the day, ground staff were unable to make the pitch playable due to lingering wet patches on the wicket. Efforts to dry the surface included the unusual step of setting the pitch alight, but the conditions remained unsafe for play.
The abandonment was officially confirmed at 15:33 local time, frustrating both Scotland and Namibia, who will each take home one point from the no-result.
Scotland’s next match against Canada on Sunday
Scotland will next face hosts Canada on Sunday at the same venue, with play scheduled to begin at 11:00 local time (16:00 UK). The match will be broadcast live on ICC TV.
