Shreyas Iyer to return, Ishan Kishan? Report makes massive BCCI contract claim

Must Read

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is on the verge of finalizing its central contracts for the 2024–25 season, with significant developments concerning key players.

Shreyas Iyer, who was previously omitted from the central contract list, is poised to make a comeback. His impressive performance as India’s top scorer in the victorious 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign has bolstered his case for reinstatement. According to NDTV,  a BCCI source stated, “We have almost finalised the new contract for players in all categories, and it will be issued in the public domain soon in a day or two.”

In contrast, Ishan Kishan‘s position remains uncertain. Despite participating in domestic cricket, his omission from the previous contract list due to skipping domestic matches continues to impact his prospects. The same BCCI source added, “After the England tour, a new contract will be formalised, keeping in mind the recent performance of the players. It’s likely to be the same, and a few new arrivals may be added on a later date.”

The upcoming five-match Test series against England, commencing on June 20, underscores the importance of player fitness. Indian captain Rohit Sharma emphasized this on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, stating, “We need some of these guys (Bumrah, Shami) to be at a hundred percent. We just have to make sure they come out of the IPL fit. Because this is the most challenging tour. I know in the IPL, it’s only four overs, but you play today, travel tomorrow. You train, you play, and then you play again. So that’s the challenging part. You’re also travelling all across the country and playing so many games.”

Sharma further expressed hope that key players would remain injury-free, saying, “I hope that these two guys, along with the others, finish the IPL without any concerns. If we have a fully fit team going to England, we’ll have a great series there.”

As the BCCI prepares to announce the finalized central contracts, the focus remains on player performance and fitness, crucial for India’s success in the forthcoming international fixtures.
