Sourav Ganguly will represent the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) at the BCCI Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on September 18, according to a report by Times of India.
The former India Captain, who serves as CAB President, will be among the representatives of 31 state units expected to participate in the meeting at the BCCI headquarters. Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM.
State associations prepare for BCCI meeting
Four of the BCCI’s 35 affiliated state units — Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Bihar — will not have representatives at the AGM.
Maharashtra Cricket Association will have a presence through Govinda Sanap, its Court-appointed administrator, rather than an elected association official.
The meeting will bring together representatives from the vast majority of the BCCI’s state associations as the board conducts its annual administrative business.
Former India players take representative roles
Ganguly will not be the only former India cricketer attending in an official state association capacity.
Former India seamer Venkatesh Prasad is due to represent the Karnataka State Cricket Association, while former India batter Saurabh Tiwary will attend for the Jharkhand State Cricket Association.
Mumbai Cricket Association, meanwhile, will be represented by Unmesh Khanvilkar.
IPL governance on the agenda
The AGM will also include an election for two representative positions on the IPL Governing Council.
The Governing Council oversees the administration and operations of the Indian Premier League, making the election one of the notable governance matters scheduled for the September 18 meeting.
With 31 state units expected to be represented, the Mumbai gathering will bring most of the BCCI’s affiliated associations together for the board’s annual decision-making process.
