8 January 2026: The ICC Player of the Month nominees for December 2025 have been announced, with standout performers from the Men’s Ashes, New Zealand vs West Indies series, and India and South Africa’s white-ball campaigns headlining the shortlists.
Australia’s Mitchell Starc, New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy, and West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves form the men’s shortlist. In the women’s category, Laura Wolvaardt, Sune Luus (both South Africa), and Shafali Verma (India) have earned nominations for their explosive and consistent performances in ODIs and T20Is.
ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees – December 2025
- Mitchell Starc (Australia)
Starc delivered a series of impactful performances during the final three Ashes Tests, picking up 16 wickets at an average of 21.25. He was also handy with the bat, scoring 139 runs. His best showing came in the second Test in Brisbane, earning Player of the Match with eight wickets and a knock of 77. He added a valuable 54 runs in the decider in Adelaide. - Jacob Duffy (New Zealand)
Duffy was the standout bowler in the 2–0 Test series win over the West Indies, claiming 23 wickets at 15.43 and earning Player of the Series. He also contributed with the bat, scoring 42 runs. - Justin Greaves (West Indies)
The West Indies all-rounder scored a memorable 202 not out in the first Test against New Zealand in Christchurch. Across three Tests, he scored 283 runs at 56.60 and took 5 wickets.
ICC Women’s Player of the Month nominees – December 2025
- Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa)
Wolvaardt was in supreme form in the white-ball series against Ireland. She scored 255 runs in three ODIs at a strike rate of 111.84 and 137 runs in two T20Is at an explosive 190.27. Her scores included 124 and 100* in the ODIs and 115* in the first T20I. She was named Player of the Series in the ODIs. - Sune Luus (South Africa)
The all-rounder compiled 205 runs and 4 wickets in the ODIs, alongside 118 runs and 4 wickets in two T20Is. Her key performances included 66* and 114 in the ODIs and a T20I haul of 4/22. - Shafali Verma (India)
The Indian opener hammered 241 runs at a strike rate of 181.20 in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. She recorded three fifties in five matches and was named Player of the Series as India secured a 3–0 win.
How voting works
The ICC Player of the Month awards are decided through a combination of fan voting and expert opinion. The independent ICC Voting Academy holds a 90% share of the vote, while fans contribute 10% via the official ICC website.
The Voting Academy includes prominent former players, journalists, broadcasters, and ICC Hall of Fame members representing cricketing nations around the world. Voting is open now, and winners will be announced in the second week of January across ICC’s digital platforms.
