Surrey CCC Partners with RIL for The Hundred Team

Surrey County Cricket Club has announced Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), owners of Mumbai Indians, as its preferred partner for The Hundred team when ownership transitions from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to Surrey at the end of 2025. As part of the agreement, RIL’s sports division, RISE, will hold a 49% share in the team, while Surrey CCC retains majority ownership with 51%.

Mumbai Indians’ extensive experience and track record of success in franchise cricket, highlighted by their recent league title win in South Africa, is expected to enhance the competitiveness and stature of The Hundred team. The Oval Invincibles, the competition’s most dominant franchise, has secured four titles in four years—both the men’s and women’s teams winning back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Their success has been driven by a mix of homegrown Surrey talent, including Sam Curran, Will Jacks, and Alice Capsey, alongside international stars such as Marizanne Kapp, Heinrich Klaasen, and Adam Zampa.

Mumbai Indians‘ global footprint spans five T20 teams across three continents in four countries. With this new venture, their portfolio expands to seven teams across four continents and five countries. Over 17 years, Mumbai Indians have claimed 11 league titles worldwide, including five IPL championships, two Champions League victories, and multiple recent triumphs such as the inaugural WPL and Major League Cricket titles in 2023, ILT20 in 2024, and SA20 in 2025. Every franchise under the MI Family has now secured a major trophy.

Surrey CCC Chairman Oli Slipper expressed confidence in the partnership: “We said at the outset that we wanted the best partner to ensure that Surrey continue to lead the way in English cricket and in Mumbai Indians that is what we have got. They share our passion for cricket, they own the biggest and most successful team in the IPL, the Mumbai Indians, and we believe this partnership will bring continued success to both Surrey CCC and our Hundred team.”

Surrey CCC has entered an exclusivity period with RIL, during which time the agreement will be finalized, pending due diligence and legal procedures.

Akash Ambani, Owner of Mumbai Indians, also welcomed the partnership: “We are glad to be part of Oval Invincibles – the most successful team in The Hundred – and welcome them into the Mumbai Indians family. England, with its rich cricketing culture, has always been special to the game.”
