The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has expanded the T20 Mumbai League to nine franchises, awarding Aspect Sports the rights to a new team representing Navi Mumbai.
Aspect Sports has secured the franchise operating rights for ₹106.88 crore (approx. US$11.1 million) over six years, with ₹12.21 crore (approx. US$1.27 million) allocated to the first season. The addition extends the competition beyond its existing franchise base and brings Navi Mumbai into the league’s regional structure.
MCA expands T20 Mumbai League footprint
The ninth franchise forms part of the MCA’s efforts to widen the competition’s reach and create another pathway for cricketers from Mumbai and its surrounding regions.
Mumbai Cricket Association President Ajinkya Naik said in an official statement: “The expansion of the T20 Mumbai League to Navi Mumbai is a significant milestone in our vision to take the game closer to every corner of the Mumbai cricketing ecosystem. The addition of a ninth franchise will not only broaden the league’s reach but also create greater opportunities for emerging cricketers to showcase their talent on a competitive platform. We are delighted to welcome Aspect Sports and look forward to working together to further strengthen the league and nurture the next generation of cricketing talent.”
The Navi Mumbai addition also increases the number of franchise operators within a competition that featured several established India players during its 2026 edition.
League targets long-term franchise growth
The expansion adds another commercial stakeholder as the T20 Mumbai League looks to develop its franchise model over the longer term.
T20 Mumbai League Governing Council Chairman Rajdip Gupta said in an official statement: “The addition of a ninth franchise marks an important new chapter in the evolution of the T20 Mumbai League. As we look ahead, expanding our franchise base will enable the league to build a stronger and more sustainable ecosystem, while creating more opportunities for players to grow. It will also allow league to create greater value for our stakeholders and deepen its engagement with audiences across the region. The entry of Aspect Sports and the expansion into Navi Mumbai further strengthens our foundation as we look to build the league into a larger and enduring sporting property.”
Rohit Sharma serves as the face of the league, while the 2026 season featured Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur, Sarfaraz Khan and Tushar Deshpande.
Aspect Sports builds cricket presence
The franchise gives Aspect Sports a position within Mumbai’s domestic T20 ecosystem as part of its wider involvement across sport. The company is owned by Aspect Global Ventures.
