Kohli appeared to ignore Head’s handshake after the game, prompting widespread discussion across social media and cricket broadcasts. Soon after, sections of fans began targeting Head and his family online, according to Jessica.

Jessica told Australian media outlet The Advertiser: “It feels like a repeat of the abuse that happened after the World Cup. I woke up to my socials blasting… we are fine but they are attacking my friends and family.”
The comments have reignited conversations around player welfare, online harassment and the impact social media abuse can have on cricketers’ families, particularly during high-profile India-Australia rivalries.
Abusive comments were directed not only at Jessica’s social media accounts but also at family members and older personal posts following the SRH-RCB encounter.

Meanwhile, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar defended the emotional nature of the exchange, suggesting moments like these are inevitable in elite sport.
“In the heat of the moment, things happen. Anybody can snap,” Gavaskar said during the launch of the eighth edition of Midwicket Stories.
“Everybody wants to be the best role model possible, but all of us are human and sometimes we fail those standards. Today, everything comes into the public domain much quicker than before,” he added.
