Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made history by becoming the youngest and fastest centurion in men’s U19 ODI cricket, scoring a blistering 143 off 78 balls against England U19 at Worcester in the fourth match of the IND U19 vs ENG U19 series on Saturday.
The 14-year-old prodigy reached his century in just 52 balls, breaking the previous fastest hundred record in Youth ODIs held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who had achieved the feat in 53 balls in 2013, also against England.
Vaibhav’s explosive innings included 13 fours and 10 sixes, as he played at a strike rate of 183.33, dismantling the English bowling attack from the outset. He brought up his fifty in just 24 balls with back-to-back sixes and reached the three-figure mark in 52 deliveries.

Youngest to score U19 ODI century at 14 years and 100 days
With this performance, Vaibhav also became the youngest player ever to score a century in Youth ODIs, aged just 14 years and 100 days, surpassing Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto, who previously held the record at 14 years and 241 days. For India, Sarfaraz Khan was the youngest centurion prior to Vaibhav, scoring a ton at 15 years and 338 days against South Africa U19 in 2013.
Continued dominance in U19 series and beyond
Vaibhav has been in sensational form throughout the series:
- Scored 86 off 31 balls in the previous match
- Made 48 and 45 in the first two games
India were asked to bat first and Vaibhav gave them a commanding start, pushing the score to 233/2 before being dismissed in the 28th over.
Proven track record across formats
This is not Vaibhav’s first entry into the record books. He previously struck the second-fastest century in Youth Tests against Australia U19 in Chennai last year, reaching 100 in 58 balls, behind only Moeen Ali’s 56-ball ton in 2005.
In the IPL, representing the Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav scored a 35-ball hundred against the Gujarat Titans earlier this year, making him the youngest-ever IPL centurion and the fastest Indian to reach a century in the league’s history. His innings ranks as the second-fastest IPL century overall, trailing only Chris Gayle.
With such performances across formats, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket.
