Virat Kohli has returned to the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings for the first time in over four years, following his match-winning 93 off 91 balls against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday. He replaces India teammate and captain Rohit Sharma at the summit.
This marks the 11th time in Kohli’s career that he has held the No.1 position, a testament to his sustained excellence in the format. His recent scores of 135, 102, 65* against South Africa and a fluent 74* versus Australia have been key contributors to his surge.
Kohli first reached No.1 in October 2013, and has now spent 825 total days at the top — the most by an Indian batter. He ranks 10th all-time in ODI ranking days, with Vivian Richards leading the list at 2,306 days.
Daryl Mitchell overtakes Rohit as top three tighten
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has also overtaken Rohit Sharma following a strong performance (84 runs), creating a tight three-way race at the top of the ODI batting rankings — just 10 points separate the trio of Kohli, Mitchell, and Sharma.

Test rankings: Starc and Head rise after Ashes win
In the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, Travis Head and Steve Smith have advanced to third and fourth, respectively, after scoring centuries in the final Ashes Test. Australia sealed a 4–1 series win with a five-wicket victory in Sydney.
Joe Root retained the No.1 Test batting position, finishing as England’s top run-scorer. Harry Brook remains second, while Jacob Bethell jumped 25 places to 52nd after a 154-run innings.
Mitchell Starc dominates Test bowling rankings
Mitchell Starc was named Player of the Series with 31 wickets, climbing from ninth to third in the Test bowling rankings. He also moved into the top five Test all-rounders.

- Michael Neser enters top 50 for the first time

T20I rankings: Hasaranga climbs, Pakistani trio rise
In the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga jumped three places to second after claiming five wickets in the 1-1 home series against Pakistan.
Several Pakistan players also saw gains:
- Sahibzada Farhan up one spot to 5th among batters
- Salman Agha jumps 13 places to 41st
- Salman Mirza climbs 16 spots to 19th in bowling rankings
