Former Pakistan Captain Wasim Akram could make his television drama debut alongside veteran actress Mahnoor Baloch in an upcoming production directed by Fahim Burney, according to reports.
The project is in its early stages, with discussions underway to finalise the cast. Burney has reportedly shared information about the drama on Instagram, although neither Akram nor Baloch’s participation has been officially confirmed. Actress Mahira Khan may also be approached for a special appearance.
Akram’s transition from cricket to entertainment
The potential television role would mark another development in Akram’s involvement in entertainment following his retirement from international cricket in 2003.
The former fast bowler has remained a prominent figure in cricket through commentary and analysis, while also appearing in commercials and entertainment projects. His acting experience includes the 2023 Pakistani film Money Back Guarantee, although he has not previously appeared in a television drama.
Akram represented Pakistan in 104 Tests and 356 One Day Internationals, taking 916 wickets across both formats. He was also a member of the country’s 1992 Cricket World Cup-winning team and remains widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s greatest fast bowlers.
Mixed reactions to the proposed casting
News of Akram’s possible move into television drama has generated mixed responses on social media.
Actress Javeria Abbasi has welcomed the development, while some social media users have questioned the decision to cast the former cricketer in a dramatic role.
The next step for the production is the finalisation of its cast, with an official announcement still awaited.
