West Indies name squad for historic T20I series against Nepal in Sharjah
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming historic T20 International (T20I) series against Nepal, scheduled to take place from September 27–30 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE. This marks the first-ever bilateral international series between the two teams, following a successful “A” Team tour last year.
Akeal Hosein will captain the side, which includes six potential debutants and several standout performers from the inaugural West Indies Breakout League and the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Rayon Griffith will lead the coaching staff as Head Coach, supported by former West Indies Head Coach Ottis Gibson as fast-bowling consultant.
Series builds towards 2026 T20 World Cup
This T20I series forms a key part of the West Indies’ preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be held in the subcontinent. With the series falling outside the ICC Future Tours Programme, selectors used the opportunity to give emerging talent valuable international experience while managing senior players’ workloads.
According to Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket at CWI:
“This series against Nepal is another important step in broadening the horizons of West Indies cricket. It allows our senior men’s team to engage with a passionate emerging nation while providing invaluable match experience in different conditions.
Beyond the immediate competition, this tour speaks to our long-term vision of developing a squad that is adaptable, resilient and ready for global challenges. Taking West Indies cricket into new territories and against new opposition also helps us grow the game, inspire new fans, and strengthen the brand of West Indies cricket worldwide.”
