Lynn Naude has become a driving force behind South Africa’s franchise cricket, transforming the Betway SA20 into a league that resonates with fans and develops players across the country. As Chief Operating Officer, she has overseen five seasons of growth, balancing commercial partnerships, player engagement, and fan experience. “I’ve always believed that South Africa was destined to have a league,” she says, emphasizing how her career-long preparation helped her step into this role with confidence.
Her approach blends operational insight with strategic foresight. Naude attributes much of the league’s early success to the alignment of franchise partners and the enthusiasm of South African fans. “Within season one, there was this genuine pride in each of these cities in those particular teams,” she recalls, noting the rapid establishment of fan loyalty. She also highlights the support of Cricket South Africa and broadcasters as crucial enablers, allowing the league to thrive even under scrutiny in its initial seasons.
Naude’s professional journey spans over two decades across global and South African sports. After earning a BA in Law from Stellenbosch University, she gained experience with IMG, the ICC, Visa, Maru Sport, and Barclays Africa Group and has been involved in marquee events including Cricket World Cups, the Rugby World Cup, the FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon, and the Absa Cape Epic. Each role contributed to her ability to navigate complex stakeholder networks and deliver high-impact sporting experiences.
Beyond the field, she is an advocate for women in leadership. Seventy percent of the SA20 workforce are women, and nearly 90% of the senior leadership team are female. “There are many women at senior levels doing good things. You just don’t see them all front and center,” she observes, underscoring her commitment to visibility and mentorship. The SA20 initiatives also include school-level cricket programs, creating pathways for both boys and girls to engage with the sport, reflecting a long-term investment in South African cricket’s growth.
Through her leadership at the SA20, Lynn Naude is working to strengthen South Africa’s cricket ecosystem, build a platform for players to shine, and foster an inclusive environment where women leaders are visible and impactful.
