Nita Ambani sits at the pinnacle of Indian sports and global cricket, shaping the direction of the game as Owner and Chairperson of the Mumbai Indians and Chair of JioStar, India’s leading sports broadcaster. Her leadership spans professional franchises, international media, and development programs, positioning her as a defining force in both Indian and global sports.
Under her leadership, the Mumbai Indians franchise has exemplified sustained excellence, with the MI approach combining disciplined team culture, strategic talent acquisition, and global expansion. The organization includes Mumbai Indians (men’s IPL team), Mumbai Indians Women (WPL), MI New York, MI Dubai, MI Cape Town, and the soon-to-launch MI London in August 2026, creating a truly international network. These teams compete at the highest levels while serving as hubs for player development, mentorship, and professional training.
As Chair of JioStar, Ambani oversees India’s premier sports and entertainment broadcaster, which streams the Indian Premier League, ICC tournaments, and other domestic and international competitions. Under her direction, JioStar has expanded live coverage, introduced innovative digital formats, and strengthened fan engagement across platforms, making sports more accessible to audiences nationwide. The network plays a critical role in shaping how cricket and other sports are consumed in India, positioning Ambani at the intersection of sports governance, media strategy, and fan experience.
Ambani’s influence extends to youth development through the Reliance Foundation, which she founded and chairs. Sports initiatives form a core pillar, including Reliance Foundation Youth Sports, Young Champs, and Jr. NBA, which have collectively reached over 21.5 million children across India. These programs integrate athletic training with education and life skills, complementing the Mumbai Indians ecosystem and ensuring broad-based access to sports opportunities, particularly for girls and underrepresented communities. Through this integrated model, Ambani has created pathways that connect grassroots engagement to professional competition, reinforcing her long-term vision for Indian sports.
Globally, Ambani represents India on the International Olympic Committee and is leading the country’s push to bring the Olympics to Ahmedabad in 2036. She advocates for infrastructure development, athlete participation, and broader inclusion in sports, leveraging her experience across franchises, broadcasting, and youth programs. By connecting professional teams, media platforms, and grassroots development, Nita Ambani has established a comprehensive sports leadership model that balances competitive excellence, visibility, and social impact, solidifying her role as one of the most powerful and transformative figures in Indian and global sports.
