Pearl Maphoshe brought decades of corporate leadership into cricket administration when she became Chairperson of the Board of Cricket South Africa in 2023. Having joined the board as an independent non-executive director the previous year, she now oversees one of the game’s most prominent national governing bodies while also chairing its Human Resources and Remuneration Committee and serving on its Transformation and Nominations Committees. At a time when governance, leadership and organisational culture remain central priorities for Cricket South Africa, Maphoshe’s background offers a perspective that extends well beyond the sport.
Her appointment followed a long executive career in human resources and organisational leadership across some of South Africa’s largest companies. Maphoshe has held senior leadership positions at Aspen Pharmacare, Tongaat Hulett, Pick n Pay, South32 and Massmart, leading strategy across talent management, organisational development, succession planning, employee engagement and business transformation. Those experiences now underpin her approach to governance within cricket, where people, leadership and organisational effectiveness are central responsibilities.
While cricket is now one of her highest-profile responsibilities, Maphoshe continues to hold governance roles across South African sport and business, including as Chair of the Human Resources and Compensation Commission at SASCOC (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee).
As Cricket South Africa continues to evolve on and off the field, Maphoshe’s role centres on strengthening the organisation from within.
