Player Representative – ICC Women’s Cricket Committee
Cricket Commentator – International Cricket Council
Sana Mir’s influence on cricket today extends well beyond the achievements that made her one of Pakistan’s greatest players. As an ICC commentator, broadcaster, World Cricketers’ Association Board Member and advocate for the women’s game, she has become one of the sport’s most respected voices, helping shape conversations around the future of cricket while continuing to represent Pakistan on the global stage.
That broader contribution comes after a career that transformed women’s cricket in Pakistan. Mir captained her country in 137 international matches over an eight-year period, leading Pakistan to consecutive Asian Games gold medals in 2010 and 2014 while helping establish the national side as a more consistent force internationally. Under her leadership, Pakistan qualified for multiple ICC global tournaments, climbed the rankings, and saw eight players break into the ICC’s top 20 rankings. She also became the first Pakistani woman to top the ICC ODI bowling rankings in 2018 and remains Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in Women’s One-Day Internationals.
Her legacy reached another landmark in 2025 when she became the first Pakistani woman inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, recognition not only of her individual record but of the barriers she helped dismantle throughout her career. Long before women’s cricket enjoyed the visibility it does today, Mir was building credibility for the sport in Pakistan while balancing the expectations that came with being one of its first high-profile female athletes.
Rather than stepping away from the game after retirement, Mir has expanded her impact. Since 2021 she has become a familiar voice on ICC tournaments, Pakistan Super League broadcasts and bilateral international cricket, while also serving as a mentor through ICC coaching initiatives. At the World Cricketers’ Association, she contributes to projects examining the global cricket calendar and the long-term sustainability of the sport, reflecting an increasing focus on governance alongside broadcasting.
