Broadcaster Presenter

Sanjana Ganesan has become a distinctive voice in cricket broadcasting, shaping how the game is presented to audiences across India and internationally. As a sports broadcaster and presenter, she has anchored major tournaments including the IPL, the ICC Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups, and the World Test Championship Final, often working behind the scenes to craft content that connects players, fans, and the global cricket community.

Her rise in sports media was unplanned yet transformative. “Sports happened as a happy accident. My agency sent me across to Star Sports and said, ‘Auditioning for presenters, is this something you’d be interested in?’ When I walked into the office, everyone was so warm and the challenge of learning sport and broadcasting really appealed to me. I never walked out of that office. It gave me my career,” Ganesan recalls. Before stepping into sports, she had already gained early television experience through modeling and appearances on television, which helped her develop on-camera presence and confidence.

Ganesan credits her engineering background with providing discipline and analytical rigor in her broadcasting work. “There’s an analytical side to me that looks at every problem or challenge in a certain way…even with broadcast, just to get used to somebody talking in your ear, having to think of what your next conversation pointer is going to be. That mindset helps me quickly process information, stay responsive in live situations, and deliver coherent insights under pressure,” she explains. This ability to break down complex information has helped her thrive in live cricket coverage, from in-studio presentations to on-field reporting.

Early in her career, she confronted gendered expectations in a male-dominated environment. “There were so few women doing what I do… it drove me harder to prove a point that I wasn’t there because I looked a certain way or because I was a particular gender,” Ganesan says. Her commitment to preparation and professionalism has set a benchmark for emerging women in sports media, and today she sees a more equitable field, where credibility and skill drive opportunity.

Internationally, Ganesan’s role as an ICC Digital Insider has broadened her influence. Covering tournaments worldwide, she reflects, “They started to put more responsibility on my shoulders. They wanted me to do year-long digital content for them. So that’s where I’m at right now,” highlighting her ongoing contributions to cricket’s global narrative.

Through a combination of adaptability, preparation, and skill, Ganesan has helped redefine what it means to be a woman in sports media. Her journey from modeling and reality TV to becoming a respected international cricket presenter underscores her impact, demonstrating that persistence and professionalism can reshape long-standing perceptions and open doors for the next generation of women in broadcasting.
