Broadcast Presenter

Zainab Abbas has become one of the most visible voices of cricket broadcasting, bridging Pakistani and international audiences with insight and credibility. She currently hosts coverage for major tournaments including the Pakistan Super League, the ICC Champions Trophy, and the Asia Cup, and has worked with Sky Sports on The Hundred, becoming the first Pakistani woman to join their broadcast team. “I feel if once you learn how to work in Pakistan, you can work anywhere else in the world,” she says, reflecting on how early domestic experiences honed her resilience and professional skills.

Her credibility rests on rigorous preparation and deep understanding of the game. “As a presenter, my job is to ask the right questions. In order to ask the right questions, I need to be doing my research and preparing really well,” Abbas explains. This approach has allowed her to navigate the skepticism often faced by women in sports media, proving expertise matters more than background as a player. Her work emphasizes technical analysis, player knowledge, and a nuanced grasp of conditions, elevating the standard of commentary in Pakistan and abroad.

Abbas’s journey into sports broadcasting began after completing an MBA in Marketing and Strategy at the University of Warwick. A successful 2015 audition for Dunya News led to a full-time presenting role, and she quickly became a recognizable presence across cricket media, hosting shows such as Cricket Dewangi and the web series Sawal Cricket Ka. She later expanded her reach internationally, collaborating with Star Sports, TEN Sports, and Sky Sports, covering high-profile tournaments and bringing Pakistani perspectives to global audiences.

Beyond her on-screen work, Abbas mentors aspiring sports journalists and sets an example of professionalism and dedication. She advises, “There’s no shortcut to success. You need to work really hard, be prepared to sacrifice, and sustain a professional attitude”. Her influence extends beyond commentary, inspiring young women to pursue careers in a field historically dominated by men, while maintaining a strong commitment to accuracy, preparation, and integrity in live broadcast.

With awards including the 2019 Sports TV Host of the Year and recognition among Asia’s 100 most influential individuals by the New York Press Agency, Abbas’s work continues to shape both domestic and international coverage, marking her as a key figure in modern cricket media.
