The Brisbane Heat has been forced to make a late change to its squad for tonight’s KFC Big Bash League match against the Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena.

Batsman Sam Heazlett has been ruled out due to illness that required him to spend several hours in hospital on a drip last night.

He will be monitored ahead of the Heat’s next game against the Sydney Thunder on Monday in Sydney.

Paceman Cameron Gannon is travelling from Brisbane today and will arrive in Hobart later this afternoon to join the 13-man squad. The BBL Technical Committee approved the change earlier this morning.

The Heat are coming off a last-start loss to the Perth Scorchers and last won in Hobart in BBL|02. Tonight’s game starts at 6.10pm Qld time.

The Brisbane Heat have also backed captain Chris Lynn’s generous personal donation of $250 for each six he hits in BBL|09 to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. Lynn, who has already hit 12 sixes so far in the competition, announced his initiative this morning.

Heat General Manager Andrew McShea said the club would match Lynn’s donation.

“It’s a tangible way the club can help and we congratulate Chris for his generous gesture,” he said.

“It’s great that other BBL players like Glenn Maxwell and D’Arcy Short have come on board too and we thank them too, as well as our fans and members who have already got on board to support the Red Cross.”

“We’re also very pleased that club sponsors Betta and Epic Pharmacy have also confirmed they will match the donations which will provide valuable assistance to the many families and individuals who will need help in the coming weeks,” he said.

Brisbane Heat Principal Partner CUA recently announced it was donating $150,000 to support the Rural Fire Services and Country Fire Authority as well as providing paid leave for staff and their partners who are volunteering to fight bushfires.
