On the eve of captaining Scotland at a World Cup for the first time, Kathryn Bryce has received a massive accolade by being named PCA Player of the Year for 2024.

It’s been an incredible year for Bryce who’s produced outstanding performances on both the international stage and in domestic cricket with Blaze, as well success for Manchester Originals in The Hundred and Gujarat Giants in the WPL.

At Tuesday’s ceremony, Bryce became the first non-English winner of the PCA POTY award, and she was also selected as captain of the PCA Team of the Year, weeks after being named PCA Domestic Overall MVP due to her outstanding statistics with bat and ball across the season.

In May, Bryce was named Player of the Tournament at the ICC Women’s T20 Global Qualifier as she led Scotland to the final, beating Thailand and Ireland en route. In June she was Player of the Tournament and Player of the Match in the final as Blaze lifted the Charlotte Edwards Cup, and then in August took 5-13, including a hat-trick, for the Manchester Originals during The Hundred.

At the start of the year Bryce became just the second cricketer from an Associate Member nation to be drafted in the biggest franchise tournament in women’s’ cricket, the WPL, when she was selected for the Gujarat Giants.

This most recent award, voted for by her peers, is arguably her biggest achievement to date, and comes ahead of Scotland beginning their debut ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign against Bangladesh in Sharjah on Thursday.
