Thunder off-spinner reported by umpires for suspect bowling action

Sydney Thunder’s Chris Green has been suspended from bowling after being reported by umpires for an illegal action in the KFC Big Bash League match against the Melbourne Stars at Sydney Showground Stadium on January 2, 2020.

Green was tested on Sunday 5 January at the Bupa National Cricket Centre in Brisbane under the supervision of Dr Luke Kelly.

He will not be permitted to bowl for 90 days in Cricket Australia-sanctioned competitions, effectively immediately. However, Green remains eligible for selection as a batsman by Sydney Thunder.

Despite his suspension Green can play – and bowl – in premier cricket with the consent of Cricket NSW.

Sydney Thunder was made aware of Cricket Australia’s ruling today.

Once Green’s 90-day suspension expires he will be eligible to undergo testing with a view to return to bowling.

Coach Shane Bond described the finding as a blow to both Green and the Sydney Thunder.

“Chris is a crowd favourite, and he’s also an extremely popular member of our club,” said Bond.

“Sydney Thunder signed Chris to a long-term deal with the club because of his leadership qualities and obvious talent. He’s an important part of our future and the club will support him through this process.”

Jason Sangha has been included as a late replacement player in Sydney Thunder’s squad for tonight’s match against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG.
