Uncapped seamer recognised after record-breaking BBL campaign

Sydney Thunder star Daniel Sams has been named in the final Australian squad for the upcoming tour of England.

The uncapped seamer has been recognised by national selectors for the first time after a record-breaking KFC Big Bash League campaign last summer.

Sams set the record for the most wickets in a single season, with 30 scalps at an average of 15.37, overtaking Kane Richardson’s record of 24.

Selector Trevor Hohns said Sams is one of several exciting young players named in the squad who have recently excelled at state level and in the BBL.

“We are very excited by these young players who we believe are all capable of playing a role in the Australian setup in coming years,” he said.

A short tour consisting of three ODIs and three T20s was originally scheduled for July but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Australian men’s team will now depart from Perth on Sunday 23 August and travel to Derby. They will play four practice matches – three T20s and one 50-over game – before playing England in three Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton and Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.
