A second-generation Auckland Aces cricketer, pace bowler Ollie Pringle has decided to hang up his cricket boots, it was confirmed today.

The tall 30-year-old played 10 Plunket Shield, five Ford Trophy and three Dream11 Super Smash for the Aces over the past two seasons in a late-blooming career, and has elected to retire ahead of the Auckland Aces contracted players announcements for the coming 2022/23 summer.

Domestic contracts for all Major Association teams have yet to be revealed, with first-round offers in the process of being finalised, and the majority of new contracts set to be announced week.

Pringle announced on social media that he would not be back at the crease after having missed out on a contract offer.

“This was a tough decision, but one that was taken out of my hands,” said Pringle.

“After not receiving a contract offer, I have chosen to move onto the next chapter.

“The journey was a long one to get to the point of wearing a baggy blue, something I’ll always be proud of.

“Being able to represent my home province was awesome. Thanks to those who have helped me along the way.”

A left-arm tailender and right-arm paceman, Pringle is the son of former Auckland and New Zealand Emerging Players representative Martin Pringle and the nephew of former Auckland and BLACKCAPS Test and ODI representative Peter Webb.

Pringle retires with 20 wickets across the three formats, including a Ford Trophy career best of 4-51 against the Central Stags last summer.
