The Lord’s Taverners Ireland, a charity for young people with additional needs, has been unveiled as the new charity partner of Cricket Ireland.

The Lord’s Taverners Ireland was launched in 2006 and incorporated an Irish Company in 2009, obtaining charitable status that year. Their mission is to help young people with additional needs to participate in sports though the funding of specialist equipment for individuals and organisations, funding minibuses for charities supporting young people with additional needs and the disabled cricket programme run by Cricket Leinster. Their charitable work is the result of a small team of dedicated volunteers with incredible support of over 300 members in Ireland. With no office premises and minimal expenses, almost all funds raised through the charity goes directly to those in need.

To date, Lord’s Taverners Ireland have funded 22 minibuses for improving access and accessibility of young people with additional needs and supported 25 individuals and clubs with sports wheelchairs and adapted sports bikes.

The Lord’s Taverners Ireland were previously Cricket Ireland’s charity partner from 2015 to 2018, and the two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for three years.

Paul Farrell, Chair of Lord’s Taverners Ireland, said:

“We are delighted to re-establish our partnership with Cricket Ireland and would like to thank Warren and his colleagues for all their cooperation.

“This year we will finance two buses for very worthy recipients, and we are continuing to support the expansion of the Table Cricket programme. A new initiative will see us provide a boat to enable young sailors with disabilities participate in their sport.

“The partnership with Cricket Ireland will significantly help us to engage with cricket players, administrators, and supporters in promoting our charity.”

Warren Deutrom, Chief Executive of Cricket Ireland said:

“We are very pleased that Cricket Ireland has re-kindled a formal charitable relationship with the Lord’s Taverners Ireland – the work of Paul and his volunteer team is simply fantastic in delivering incredible support projects to many young people across Ireland.

“The ability of sport to inspire and improve lives is well documented, but to be able to help young people with disabilities – to make sport and healthy activities more accessible and available – is a goal we all share and we all have a responsibility to support.

“We encourage all within the Irish cricket family and beyond to support this great charity and directly improve the lives of young people in need across Ireland.”
