The Jharkhand State Cricket Association has partnered with SJ Uplift to establish a franchise-based T20 league, marking a significant step in the commercial expansion of domestic cricket structures at the state level. The agreement grants SJ Uplift a seven-year mandate to develop and operate the competition, with the inaugural edition scheduled for June 2026 featuring six teams.
Seven-year mandate to build full league ecosystem
Under the agreement, SJ Uplift will oversee the league’s end-to-end execution, covering operational delivery, commercial strategy, and long-term development. This includes managing sponsorship and media rights opportunities, shaping the league’s brand identity, and driving the creation of a scalable franchise-based model.
The company will also be responsible for structuring the team ecosystem, including franchise onboarding and player recruitment processes such as auctions or drafts, alongside establishing a sustainable sports intellectual property designed to grow over multiple seasons.
Ajay Nath Shahdeo, President of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, said, “We are pleased to appoint SJ Uplift as we look to build a professionally structured T20 league for Jharkhand. Their expertise in executing franchise-led sports properties aligns with our vision to create a sustainable and well-organised cricket platform in the state.”
Focus on long-term growth and commercial viability
The initiative reflects a broader shift among state associations toward franchise-driven T20 formats as a means to unlock new revenue streams and strengthen grassroots pathways. By adopting a structured league model, Jharkhand aims to create a competitive platform for emerging players while enhancing its presence within India’s domestic cricket landscape.
SJ Uplift, which has previously worked on regional sports properties across India, will lead efforts to build a commercially viable league with long-term scalability, combining operational planning with strategic partnerships.
Sambhav Jain, Founder and Director of SJ Uplift, said, “Being entrusted with this mandate by Jharkhand State Cricket Association is a significant step in our journey of building structured regional sports properties in India. Our focus will be on delivering a robust league framework with strong operational planning, franchise participation, and long-term sustainability.”
Expanding regional T20 ecosystem in India
The planned competition places Jharkhand among a growing list of regions investing in franchise-based T20 leagues, as cricket governance continues to evolve toward decentralised and commercially driven models. The league is expected to contribute to talent identification and development, building on the state’s track record of producing international players.
