Fahim Sinha has been appointed Chairman of the Bangladesh Premier League Governing Council as part of a wider restructuring of Bangladesh Cricket Board committees announced following the first Board of Directors meeting of the newly elected administration led by President Tamim Iqbal. The appointments were approved during an emergency meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, where the board outlined responsibilities across several key areas of Bangladesh cricket.
New leadership takes charge of the BPL
Sinha replaces Aminul Islam Bulbul at the helm of the country’s premier franchise T20 competition and will oversee the next phase of the tournament’s development. Veteran sports organiser Masuduzzaman has been named Member Secretary of the BPL Governing Council.
The appointment comes at an important moment for the competition, which has faced criticism in recent seasons over delayed payments and governance-related concerns. Allegations relating to integrity issues have also placed additional scrutiny on the tournament’s administration.
The new governing council is expected to play a key role in addressing those challenges while working to strengthen confidence among franchises, players and other stakeholders connected to the league.
Committee appointments confirmed
Alongside his BPL responsibilities, Sinha has also been entrusted with leadership of the BCB’s Game Development Committee. The board’s Finance Committee will be chaired by Israfil Khosru as part of the newly approved committee structure.
Tamim will head the Working Committee, continuing a hands-on role in cricket administration after previously leading the board’s ad hoc committee. While no Chairman was announced for the Cricket Operations Committee, Tamim had earlier indicated that the executives overseeing that area were performing effectively in their existing roles.
Infrastructure projects approved
The board meeting also resulted in approval for several infrastructure and facility-development projects at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Among the initiatives cleared were the construction of a swimming pool, the development of gymnasium facilities and the purchase of a team bus. The board also approved funding for shade structures and renovation work across several areas of the stadium, including the general gallery, dressing rooms, players’ dining facilities and viewing sections.
Board accepts director’s resignation
The BCB also confirmed the resignation of Board Director Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto, who stepped down from his position citing family reasons.
In addition, the board approved a change to the schedule of the final round of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, with matches moved from June 11 to June 12.
With a new leadership group now in place and committee responsibilities formally allocated, attention will turn to how the board implements its plans across domestic cricket, infrastructure development and the future direction of the Bangladesh Premier League.
