India has had an impressive run in the 2025 Champions Trophy, winning all their matches and securing a place in the final against New Zealand on March 9 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Stadium. One of the standout performers for India has been Shreyas Iyer, who has consistently delivered big runs while batting at number 4. With 195 runs from four games at an average of 48.75, including two half-centuries and four consecutive scores of 40, Iyer’s form has been crucial to India’s success in the tournament.
As a result of his stellar performances, Iyer is set to be rewarded with a BCCI central contract. After being omitted from the previous term’s list due to disciplinary issues, Iyer is poised to regain his place in the central contract list. A report from The Times of India confirms that Iyer’s return to the contract list is imminent, marking a significant recovery for the talented middle-order batsman.
The BCCI typically announces its central contract list before the IPL season begins. However, this year, the board has delayed the announcement to assess India’s performance in the Champions Trophy 2025, especially after a disappointing period in Test cricket.
According to the report, the BCCI is set to review the contracts of the A+ category players, which currently include Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah. The board is likely to reconsider these contracts, particularly due to the retirement of Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja from T20I cricket, coupled with their underwhelming performances in recent Test matches.
In addition to Iyer’s anticipated promotion, there is speculation that other players, including Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant, could be promoted to the Grade A category. This move would reflect their growing importance and contributions to the team.
Meanwhile, Iyer’s return to form and subsequent central contract offer are seen as just rewards for his resilience and consistency in the Champions Trophy, adding another layer of significance to India’s preparations for the final.
