World Cup win rekindles a personal dream
India’s momentous win at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 has sparked celebrations across the cricketing world — and for trans cricketer and television personality Anaya Bangar, it has also reignited a long-held dream.
As the women in blue lifted the trophy after defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final, Bangar shared her admiration in a message posted to her Instagram story.
“So proud, so emotional. Our girls just made history by winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. I have always dreamed of being a part of this moment, of standing there in blue and making the country proud. Watching them lift the cup gives me goosebumps; it’s pure inspiration. Someday, I’m hoping and willing to be part of that team and bring the World Cup home again,” she wrote.

A story of visibility and hope
Anaya Bangar — daughter of former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar — has been an outspoken advocate for transgender inclusion in sports. A contestant on the reality show Rise and Fall, she has publicly documented her athletic journey and transition, including completing a full year of hormone replacement therapy.
Earlier this year, Bangar revealed she had submitted scientific documentation to the BCCI and ICC showing her eligibility to compete in women’s cricket, after working with Manchester Metropolitan University to study physiological changes during her transition. Her aim, she said, was to foster a “fact-based, honest discussion” around trans participation in the game.
Trans inclusion remains an unresolved challenge
Despite her efforts, the pathway to inclusion remains complex. Following the 2023 Cricket World Cup, the ICC introduced policies that currently prohibit transgender women from participating in international women’s cricket. Bangar’s aspirations continue in the wake of these regulations.
She has resumed cricket training and continues to engage publicly with fans about her journey, believing that her dream of wearing the Indian jersey still deserves a shot.
