Gemini signs three-year sponsorship deal with BCCI
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has landed a major sponsorship agreement ahead of IPL 2026, securing a ₹270 crore (approx. US$ 30 million) deal with Google’s artificial intelligence platform, Gemini. According to a report by PTI, the deal spans three seasons and signals a new era of high-value tech partnerships in cricket.
Described as a landmark commercial agreement, the Gemini deal reinforces the Indian Premier League’s status as one of the most sought-after sports properties globally. A BCCI official told PTI, “The deal is for three years and reinforces IPL’s global appeal.”
The agreement is understood to cover key branding assets and visibility across IPL broadcasts and digital platforms. While further details about activation and integration are expected closer to the season, the scale of the deal highlights the league’s ongoing appeal to global technology brands.
Gemini joins growing list of AI backers in Indian cricket
Gemini’s partnership follows a broader trend of artificial intelligence companies entering Indian cricket. Last year, ChatGPT was announced as a sponsor of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), further cementing the sector’s interest in engaging with India’s vast cricket audience.
During that announcement in November 2025, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated, “From global leaders in AI, manufacturing and beverages to trusted Indian consumer brands, this partnership mix will play a critical role in shaping the fan experience and supporting the growth of women’s cricket.”
The Gemini deal builds on that strategy, signaling the BCCI’s intent to deepen its commercial relationships with AI and tech-led firms across both the men’s and women’s circuits.
IPL sponsorship slate continues to expand
The Gemini agreement is part of a broader sponsorship cycle ahead of IPL 2026. BCCI has also secured deals in other categories, including a strategic timeout partnership reportedly worth ₹90 crore (approx. US$ 10 million). While specifics of the full sponsor lineup remain under wraps, the board is understood to be in active talks across multiple verticals, including finance, beverages, and telecom.
The previous cycle saw headline deals reach as high as ₹579 crore (approx. US$ 64 million), reflecting the scale and global appeal of the IPL brand. With the Gemini partnership now in place, the BCCI continues to attract marquee names and diversify its sponsor base.
AI and innovation driving next phase of IPL growth
Gemini’s involvement reflects a strategic alignment between cricket and emerging technologies. As the IPL looks to engage fans in new, interactive ways, partnerships with AI platforms could drive innovations in content, real-time analytics, and personalized experiences.
With the 2026 season approaching, the BCCI’s latest deals not only secure commercial value but also point toward a shift in how cricket will be consumed and monetized in the coming years. Gemini’s role in that evolution will be closely watched as Indian cricket continues to set new benchmarks in sports business.
