THE CLUB
Blackheath Cricket Club is one of the leading cricket clubs in London. Formed over one hundred and fifty years ago and sporting a colourful history, Blackheath fields seven league teams every Saturday, up to three teams on a Sunday and also operates an extensive youth section.
As an ECB Focus Club with Clubmark accreditation and a wealth of experienced coaches, Blackheath provides an environment where young people can enjoy the game recreationally but also supports a steady stream of young people to access county age-group squads and senior cricket at Premier League level. We currently have around 250 playing members under the age of 17 drawn from a wide range of south and east London neighbourhoods and schools, reflecting the ethnic and socio-economic diversity of the region.
THE ROLE
We are seeking candidates for the Head Coach role of our youth academy at Blackheath Cricket Club.
The post will focus on the technical, tactical, and personal development of our most talented young cricketers but will also encompass a supportive role in Blackheath CC’s wider youth section and out-reach work in the local community through partnership with a thriving local charity that aims to bring more young people into cricket.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be an ECB Level 3 Coach (or working towards Level 3).
- Hold an Enhanced DBS Check and all relevant Safeguarding and First Aid Qualifications.
- Be self-motivated, innovative and able to develop initiatives with a high degree of independence.
- Be passionate about improving young cricketers from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Have professional/First Class playing experience (or an established record in League/Minor County Cricket).
- Be based in, able to travel readily to, or willing to move to, South/East London
Although mainly a face-to-face delivery role, the post will also hold some administrative and partnership-building responsibilities. Applicants should have good communication, IT and record-keeping skills.
It is essential that the postholder is flexible around working hours and leave. The seasonal nature of cricket means that some weeks are extremely busy, although we are committed to supporting applicants who still play to high level as much as possible.
Blackheath Cricket Club is committed to safeguarding/safer recruitment so the successful applicant will be expected to either hold or undergo an Enhanced DBS Check.
