Over two weeks after the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the player non-payment scandal is persisting.
According to multiple sources, many foreign players on the Dhaka Capitals have been paid only 50 percent of what they were contractually due, while some players, such as US-based Shubham Ranjane, have received no payment at all. Team representatives have allegedly stopped responding to emails or phone calls from players’ representatives.
Details are also emerging about treatment of foreign players by the Dhaka Capitals before the tournament as well.
One case in particular is that of Zahoor Khan, the Pakistani-born UAE national cricketer who was signed by Dhaka three months before the BPL was scheduled to start. Khan apparently left his sick father and flew from Pakistan back to the UAE to be ready for the BPL, only to find that the Dhaka Capitals had not placed him on their visa approval list.
In the end Zahoor Khan was not included in the squad and his signed contract was not honored, as he too has yet to receive any payment.
