Cricket Australia (CA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have introduced an umpire exchange programme that will see match officials gain experience across the two countries’ leading domestic competitions.
Australian Umpire Ben Treloar has been assigned two Ranji Trophy fixtures in India, while Indian Umpire Parashar Joshi will officiate in two Sheffield Shield matches and one One Day Cup game in Australia.
The arrangement extends cooperation between the two cricket boards into umpire development, providing opportunities for match officials to work in different playing conditions and domestic competition structures.
Ben Treloar’s Ranji Trophy assignments in India
Treloar’s first appointment is the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Gujarat, scheduled from October 18 to 21 in Delhi.
He will subsequently officiate the Mumbai-Haryana fixture in Mumbai from October 26 to 29, completing his two-match assignment in India.
The Australian brings experience across several levels of domestic and international women’s cricket, having officiated in 30 first-class matches, 20 List A games and 39 Big Bash League (BBL) fixtures.
His international appointments include two Women’s One Day Internationals and four Women’s T20 Internationals.
Beyond his match-day responsibilities, Treloar serves as Cricket New South Wales’ Umpire Education Officer, supporting the training and development of emerging officials.
His work in umpire education has earned him four George Borwick Memorial Awards from the New South Wales Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association.
Parashar Joshi’s Sheffield Shield and One Day Cup schedule
Joshi’s Australian assignment begins at the Gabba in Brisbane, where he will officiate Queensland’s Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania from November 11 to 14.
He will remain at the venue for the One Day Cup encounter between the same teams on November 16 before travelling to Sydney for the Sheffield Shield fixture between New South Wales and Queensland at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) from November 22 to 25.
Joshi has officiated in 19 first-class matches, including fixtures in the Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, alongside 32 List A games across competitions such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Deodhar Trophy.
His experience also includes 40 T20 matches, with appointments in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Exchange programme strengthens umpire development
The initiative gives Treloar and Joshi exposure to unfamiliar domestic cricket environments, including different pitches, playing conditions and competition formats.
For Treloar, the exchange involves first-class cricket in India’s Ranji Trophy, while Joshi’s Australian schedule combines red-ball assignments in the Sheffield Shield with a limited-overs fixture in the One Day Cup.
By facilitating these appointments, Cricket Australia and the BCCI are extending their bilateral cooperation into the development of match officials, alongside their existing international cricket relationship.
