A day after reports emerged that Cricket Canada CEO Salman Khan had been charged in an alleged $200,000 criminal fraud case, the national governing body has issued a statement acknowledging the situation while emphasizing due process and internal review procedures.
In a press release published on its official website, Cricket Canada emphasized its commitment to integrity and accountability, stating that it is “consulting with legal and governance experts to determine the appropriate course of action.”
The charges against Khan, along with another individual, Syed Wajahat Ali, involve alleged financial misconduct related to their tenure with the Calgary and District Cricket League between 2014 and 2016. Both have been charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000.
Khan has denied the allegations, labeling them as “completely false,” and has expressed his intention to contest the charges vigorously.
Cricket Canada assured its stakeholders that it remains focused on its mission to develop and support cricket across the country, stating, “In the meantime, we want to assure our members, stakeholders, and the cricket community in Canada that we remain focused on our mission to grow and support the sport with transparency and responsibility.”
The organization is actively investigating the situation and has reiterated its respect for the legal process.
As legal proceedings unfold, Cricket Canada has committed to to providing further updates “as more information becomes available.”.
