BACKGROUND
Cricket Ireland is the national governing body (NGB) for the men’s and women’s game throughout Ireland, with ultimate responsibility for its national and international aspects. The future of Irish cricket is very bright given the growth of the sport driven by significant success on the international stage in the last decade leading to an unprecedented visibility for Irish cricket at home and abroad.
Our emergence as a sport of national significance is growing following the elevation of Cricket Ireland to ICC Full Membership and Test Status, along with entry into the sport’s Future Tours Programme in both the men’s and women’s game that now sees Ireland playing consistently against the best teams in the world for the foreseeable future.
THE ROLE
The Umpire Coach will play a role in the development of umpires on the CI First Class & Representative Panels as well as any identified female umpires. The role is part-time with flexible hours coupled with high involvement during cricket season.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Umpire Coaching
o Implement and monitor annual coaching plans for CI First Class & Representative Panel umpires.
o Receive match self-assessments and assist development of coaching plans with CI First Class & Representative Panel umpires.
o Communication and coaching of CI First Class & Representative Panel umpires.
o Implement pre-series and/or pre-match preparation for CI First Class & Representative Panel umpires involved in an international series.
o Complete post series and annual reviews of CI First Class & Representative Panel umpires.
o Attend specified matches/tours to observe and provide coaching assistance.
o Analyse trends and facilitate continual improvement of CI First Class & Representative Panel umpires.
o Ensure that CI First Class & Representative Panel are fully versed with the current Laws
of Cricket, Playing Conditions, interpretations, and across any changes.
o Work with and coach any relevant identified female umpires in Ireland.
REQUIREMENTS
Ideal candidate will have the following background:
o Relevant qualifications or demonstrated previous experience in a relevant field
o Current Drivers Licence
o Safeguarding / Garda Vetting Clearance
o Experience in sport (cricket preferred) at a local, provincial, national and/or international level
o Strong understanding of umpiring cricket.
o Sound administration experience, including report preparation, record keeping and use of IT applications
o Ability to successfully work as part of a team and individually
o Success in developing and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders
o High level of ambition, drive, attention to detail and strong work ethic
o Play a part in contributing to the ongoing evolution of Cricket Ireland’s strategic plan
