World renowned physiotherapist Patrick Farhart has this week re-joined Cricket NSW as Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine, renewing his long-time association with cricket in the state.

Farhart spent the first 25 years of his distinguished career with Cricket NSW, between 1990 and 2015, before expanding his expertise to the Indian Premier League and India’s national men’s team.

For four years, between 2015 and 2019, Farhart was the Indian team’s physiotherapist, which followed four years with the Sydney Sixers (2011-2015), including the BBL|01 title and 2012 T20 Champions League.

He was lead physio for the Delhi Capitals in the two most recent editions of the IPL, held during the COVID-19 pandemic, and spent eight years with the Kings XI Punjab.

Farhart’s resume extends to English County Cricket as well where he was Hampshire’s physio for four seasons from 2002 to 2006.

It also includes several tours with the Australian Cricket team between 1989 and 2001.

Now, that journey culminates in a return home.

“This role is the merging of a professional journey and the passion and attachment I have for NSW cricket,” Farhart said.

“I’ve worked all over the world, in England and India, but I have a deep attachment and always (want to know) how NSW cricket is doing.

“What I’ve done over the last 30 years in the cricket space has prepared me for this role.”

As athletic performance advances, Sports Science and Sports Medicine take on extra importance in modern sport.

With that top of mind, and drawing on his vast experience in the field, Farhart’s goal is simple.

“To facilitate absolute world class practices within our SSSM team to support our players and coaches,” he said.

“For me that is the number one thing … it is how we apply our domain expertise in the cricket space and how that makes an impact on performance and injury outcomes for our players and helps our coaches in their decision making about how to manage our players.

“(Establishing) a mindset of answering questions and questioning answers within our staff.”
