Cricket Scotland launches women and girls action plan

As the world marks International Women’s Day, Cricket Scotland is delighted to announce the launch of its Women and Girls Action Plan.

The Action Plan is hugely important to Cricket Scotland as it helps the governing body to deliver on one of its four key strategic priorities – to inspire more women and girls to get involved in cricket, on and off the field.

The Action Plan can viewed here.

Nic Wilson, Cricket Scotland Head of Development, said:

“I’ve been involved in women’s cricket for a long time, and I’m really excited that this Action Plan is now at the forefront of what we do. The plan brings together everything we’ve learned from consultations across the Scottish game. Our clubs and communities have helped to shape it – now we are ready to deliver it.

“What excites me in particular about the plan is the leadership element to it, as we seek to create more female leaders within Scottish cricket. There’s also huge potential for growth in girls’ cricket, and we’ve already seen that start to happen with the role models that have been created in our national women’s team and U19 women’s team.

“The positive impact they’ve made by being so successful on the global stage in the last year cannot be underestimated, so there are fantastic opportunities going forward to inspire more girls to play cricket.”

Trudy Lindblade, Cricket Scotland CEO, said:

“This is a milestone moment for women and girls’ cricket across Scotland. It is a direct response to the need for greater equity and opportunity for women and girls and demonstrates our commitment to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment. I’d like to thank all those who contributed to the creation of the plan.

“As Cricket Scotland’s first female CEO, I’m really proud of the plan we’ve created, which is driven by our passion for growing the game and shining a light on the incredible and inspiring contributions that women and girls make every day in our sport – whether as player, coaches, officials, administrators or club volunteers.”

In addition to launch of the Action Plan, Cricket Scotland is highlighting its support for “Catching History”, a pilot research project capturing the stories of some of the pioneers of modern-day Scottish women’s cricket.

The project is being led by Bayfirth Research CIC, with part-funding from Sporting Heritage through a Sporting Heritage Community Grants Fund which is made possible by the players of the National Lottery and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

More details about “Catching History” can be found here.
