Cricket Scotland, in partnership with Lord’s Taverners, has announced the launch of a new Super 1s disability cricket hub in Aberdeen, expanding the programme’s reach and impact across the country.
The new hub, located at Aberdeen Lads Club, becomes the fifth Super 1s location in Scotland. The initiative forms part of Cricket Scotland’s strategic goal to establish 12 community hubs by 2028, aligned with its mission to promote equality and inclusivity throughout the sport.
Super 1s: creating opportunity and building confidence
The Super 1s programme provides young people with disabilities the opportunity to play regular, competitive cricket while gaining life skills, building confidence, and fostering independence in a community-focused environment.
The Aberdeen hub joins existing hubs in Edinburgh, Dundee and Angus, and Glasgow, forming part of a growing network committed to making cricket more accessible across Scotland.
“We’re delighted to announce the launch of this new Aberdeen hub, as we continue to develop opportunities in cricket for children and young people with a disability,” said Connor Brian, Cricket Scotland’s Disability Development Officer.
“The goal is for every participant to get involved with their peers, learn new skills, and have fun. It’s also about developing life skills and building a supportive community where they can grow in confidence and engage fully in sport.”
Future expansion: Perth hub and SEND engagement
Cricket Scotland has also revealed plans to open a future Super 1s hub in Perth and expand its SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) programme to reach more schools around each hub area.
“We want participants to understand that there are pathways within cricket across the country,” added Brian. “Our aim is to grow disability cricket at both grassroots and performance levels, creating sustainable access points for young people nationwide.”
Super 1s hubs are delivered in partnership with Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity.
