The Scotland Women’s squad for July’s Tri-Series with the Netherlands and Thailand has been confirmed today, with two players poised to head on their first senior international tours.

There’s a first call-up for Chloe Abel, who hails from Tasmania and has been a member of the Hobart Hurricanes squad. Chloe was recently awarded a cap by Middlesex and qualifies to play for Scotland through her mother.

Also receiving a first senior call-up is 18-year-old Darcey Carter of South East Stars, who made a significant impact with the Scotland U19 squad during their appearance at the inaugural Women’s U19 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year.

Scotland depart for the Netherlands on July 9, and are scheduled to play four T20 internationals across six days at Kampong CC. The Scots begin with a game against Thailand on Monday July 10, followed by back-to-back matches on Wednesday July 12 and Thursday July 13 against the Netherlands and Thailand respectively. The tour concludes with a final fixture against the Netherlands on Saturday July 15.

Squad captain Kathryn Bryce and vice-captain Sarah Bryce will both be available for the final two matches only, due to a scheduling clash with their English domestic commitments during the earlier part of the tour. Katherine Fraser will captain the side for the first two matches, assisted by Abtaha Maqsood as vice-captain.

Scotland Women’s Interim Head Coach, Peter Ross, said:

“It’s great to announce this squad and have the opportunity to play international cricket once more. Although we’re missing a couple of key players, I feel we’ve selected a strong squad and I’m really looking forward to working with the players on this tour, which will serve as important preparation ahead of September’s T20 Europe Regional Qualifier in Spain.

“This will be our first international series since last September, and everyone is excited to be back playing international cricket once again. Netherlands and Thailand have both played a couple of series since then, so we expect this to be a very competitive series. The players have trained hard and are very much looking forward to getting back out on the pitch to show what they can do.

“It’s also great to see a couple of new faces breaking through. We know what Darcey is capable of after her performances with the U19s and we feel now is the right time to get her involved in the senior setup. It’s exciting to welcome Chloe into the group. and we are all excited to see what she can offer.”
