Cricket Wellington is seeking a dynamic and strategic General Manager – Community and Facilities to lead our community cricket initiatives and oversee facility development, ensuring the sport remains accessible, inclusive, and innovative across the Wellington region.

The Role

As a key member of Cricket Wellington’s Senior Leadership Team, the General Manager – Community and Facilities will be responsible for overseeing the management and leadership of community cricket, including relationship management of affiliated Cricket Wellington clubs and New Zealand Cricket’s Strategic Network Partnership Investment. In addition, this role will also work alongside the Chief Executive Officer to deliver the Basin Reserve Management Agreement.

Strategic Focus

The General Manger – Community and Facilities will be responsible for Delivering Cricket Wellington’s Strategic Outcome – Growing Participation across all forms of Cricket. Including the goals of:

  • Increase Women’s Participation – Grow the number of women and girls playing cricket.
  • Sustain and Strengthen Men’s Participation – Maintain and enhance men’s and boy’s cricket engagement, ensuring sustainable participation levels.
  • Enhance Community Engagement – Build strong connections with clubs, players, fans, and both existing and new stakeholders—including schools, businesses, volunteers, and community groups—to foster an inclusive, vibrant, and unified cricketing ecosystem.
  • Expand Access and Inclusion –Ensure cricket is accessible to all, including diverse communities such as Māori, Pasifika, South Asian, women and girls, as well as schools and emerging talent across Greater Wellington, fostering long-term growth and participation at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Cricket Wellington’s community cricket strategy, ensuring growth, accessibility, and inclusivity.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clubs, schools, local councils, and funding bodies to drive the growth of the game.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and strategic planning of cricket facilities across the region, ensuring sustainable and future-focused solutions.
  • Drive innovation in participation programs, making cricket engaging and accessible for all communities, including diverse and underrepresented groups.
  • Collaborate with New Zealand Cricket, local government, and community stakeholders to align facility and participation objectives.
  • Advocate for player and volunteer well-being, ensuring a safe and enjoyable cricket experience at all levels.
  • Manage resources efficiently, demonstrating the ability to work with constraints while delivering high-quality community programs and facility developments.
  • Lead a team of community and facilities staff, fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and transformational leadership.

  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship management – strong networking skills to engage clubs, schools, funders, and community groups.
  • People and team leadership – experienced in managing, motivating, and developing teams to achieve results.
  • Programme and operational management – skilled in planning, executing, and improving community sport programs.
  • Facility and infrastructure management – worked closely with councils and venue providers to ensure quality facilities and access for the community.
  • Financial and commercial acumen – budget management, securing funding, and ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Resilient and adaptable – thrives in a fast-moving environment, solving challenges proactively.
  • Integrity and accountability – lead with transparency, professionalism, and a focus on impact.
  • Result driven and innovative – focused on achieving participation goals and embracing new ideas for growth.
